History

The Interdenominational Ministers' Conference (IMC) of Greater Harrisburg was founded more than 50 years ago by a group of Ministers to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ, promote brotherhood, and implement the ideals of justice and dignity throughout our community.

The fellowship in the Minister's Conference all through the years has been enriching and inspiring, as we have striven to lift up Christ by our words and deeds. Everyone, both the Laity and Ministerial members, echoes this contagion.

There are more than sixty (60) ministers in the IMC; and they are from a wide and divergent group of denominations and professions of faith. They are: African Methodist, Episcopal African Methodist, Episcopal Zion Christian Methodist, Episcopal United Methodist, Presbyterian, United Church of Christ, Church of God, Church of God in Christ, Primitive Baptist, Missionary Baptist, United Holy Church of America, Church of the Living God, Seventh day Adventist, and Non-Denominational Churches.

In carrying out its mission IMC has been quite generous to many organizations throughout the community including: The Conference on Black Basic Education, the Women's Bethesda Mission, the Men's Bethesda Mission; Camp Curtin YMCA; O.I.C.; Antioch tabernacle U.H.C. of America Feeding Ministry; Pennsylvania Council of Churches, the Office of Ethnic Cooperation, and Institutional Ministries; Harrisburg School District's Continuing Education Program and Youth Program; Tri County's "Governing Center" Day Care-Hall Manor; and Christian Churches United.

Also, IMC has made substantial contributions toward the establishment of The Greater Harrisburg Community Credit Union, a State Chartered Credit Union and towards the Chaplaincy at the Dauphin County Prison, as well as paid for the Chapel that is in the Harrisburg Hospital.

Beyond any doubt the IMC by action and deed has implemented the mission of our Lord and Savior and will continue helping the needy in accordance with the words from our Lord' s Gospel as recorded by Matthew: " ...For I was hungry and you gave me food; I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink; I was a stranger and you took me in; Naked and you clothed me; I was sick and you visited me; I was in prison and you came unto me..."

We solicit your earnest prayers that God might continue to increase the work of IMC and that you might continue to be supportive of the job that God has assigned to our hands.
